Pre-requisites

  • Must have been practicing Traditional Hot 26-2 for at least 1 year.
  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher you’ve taken classes with and who knows your practice.
  • Complete application followed by a $400 non refundable deposit.

Guest Teachers

Jimmy Barkan- Jimmy Barkan is a Master Yoga Teacher certified by Ghosh’s College of India, Calcutta, India in 1981.  One of the pioneers of Hot Yoga in the United States, Jimmy practiced daily under the guidance of Bikram Choudhury as his most Senior Teacher, an accomplishment very few have since obtained.

Jimmy’s first yoga studio, Yoga College Of India, opened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida  January 20, 1983.  Jimmy has worked with of our country’s top professional athletes throughout the years including members of the NFL, NBA, NHL, The 1997 World Series Champions Florida Marlins and PGA Tour players. Since 1986, Jimmy has certified over 1500 Bikram and Barkan Method Teachers and rebranded in 2002 as The Barkan Method of Hot Yoga. https://www.barkanmethod.com/

Maryam Ovissi

 

Maryam is the visionary and founder of Beloved Yoga: A Sanctuary for All. For over 13 years, she has created spaces for humanity to access the tools of Yoga to experience freedom in the mind, body and breath. Maryam is a certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and under the tutelage of Bhekaji Lynch, she received her 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) accreditation with Yoga Alliance. Maryam’s personal mission as a teacher of Yoga is to provide an opportunity for her students to have access to tools that allow self-healing, self-empowerment and self-realization. https://www.belovedyoga.com/about-us/beloved-yoga-staff/

Ida Jo and Scott Lamps

  

Ida Jo and Scott are Yoga Acharyas (Masters of Yoga). They travel internationally to teach yoga postures, pranayama (breathing exercises), anatomy, yoga history and philosophy. They are perpetual students of the traditions, methods and science of yoga.

They have published 3 Practice Manuals describing more than 100 beginning, intermediate and advanced asanas, pranayamas and pratyahara techniques, plus an in-depth volume about modifying the 26 postures known as Bikram Yoga. They work closely with Ghosh’s Yoga College in Kolkata, India, facilitating the training of yoga teachers in therapeutic and prescriptive yoga by Muktamala (Ghosh) Mitra, the granddaughter of Bishnu Charan Ghosh.

Their research, along with Jerome Armstrong, into the history of the Ghosh lineage has yielded 4 publications from Bishnu Ghosh, Dr. Gouri Shankar Mukerji and Buddha Bose. www.ghoshyoga.org

Barbara Leese

 

Barb has always had a passion for health and mind/body wellness, and trained professionally with Canada’s National Ballet School performing across Canada, The States and throughout Europe. She was then in musical theater with the Phantom of the Opera, eventually becoming associate director of the Toronto production.

Currently Barb teaches anatomy/physiology and dance technique for the Bachelor of Musical Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College and is an associate of the movement program for The Elder Research Centre. With additional certifications in yoga, personal training and mind/body, Barb brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, balance, strength and flexibility in an atmosphere of openness and trust.

Over the last 8 years, she has trained many yoga instructors through her 200hr Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher Training program. Barb’s quest for knowledge and her personal mantra that “anything is possible” inspired her to complete her Masters degree in July 2015 at York University studying the effect of yoga on post-secondary dance training.

As a recipient of the Burlington Civic Recognition Award for International Achievements, Barb is delighted to be using all of her experience to assist people in finding personal wellness and performance excellence through the mind/body connection of yoga and dance. https://www.esprityoga.net/

After graduation, you will receive an OHYA Certification.

Please note* Certificates will not be given out until all required hours have been complete. Make up sessions will be handled on an individual basis.

Sample Schedule

Friday- Training 5-9pm,

Sat – 8am Traditional Hot Yoga class, Training 9:30- 5:30 pm, Lunch 12-1pm

Sunday: Class 9am, Training 10:30-6:30 pm, Lunch 1-2pm

Bodē nyc will consider hiring Hot Yoga 26-2 OHYA certified for our Traditional Hot 26-2 classes.
