HIIT IT HARDER

Last month we kicked off a Master Class HIIT Series called “HIIT It Harder.” It’s being held on Sunday mornings all winter long, and after its early success we wanted to really get the word out. To do that, I sat down with the instructor, Stephanie Sladkus, for a quick interview to help clients better understand what to expect.


CHIP: So what exactly is “HIIT It Harder,” and how does it differ from a regular HIIT class?

STEPHANIE: HIIT It Harder is a 60-minute, interval training class that combines 4 rounds of Tabata-style cardio with full-body conditioning. Just like the regular HIIT class we focus primarily on bodyweight drills, plus the addition of gliders. Adding gliders to an exercise makes that exercise harder because it challenges your balance and stability so you more fully engage your core. Even in my own exercise regimen, I found myself making quick gains as soon as I added gliders into my routine!


What do people need for class?

Gliders are the only thing you need (here’s the link to the ones we’re recommending ; they’re only $8)… But if you don't have gliders, don't worry! A small towel or washcloth will work great on a smooth floor; and we’ve found paper plates and magazines can be used on carpet!


What was the inspiration for this more advanced class?

We kept hearing from our a bunch of our HIIT clients who wanted to try something a little different, but still in the spirit of the bodē HIIT workouts. We knew we wanted to create a a more rigorous experience, and worked hard to create something to challenge those practitioners. Incorporating gliders, changes in pacing, multiple sets, and additional cardio really make HIIT It Harder a challenging (and fun!) hour.


What has been the reaction so far from the students who have taken the class?

The reaction has been terrific. Last week, a client said:

"If I were giving out awards for best new fitness class of 2021, the one with the gliders that you programmed would be my first choice by far! It's so effective and so much fun. I love it! Thank you!!"


What would you say to someone who's nervous about taking the class?

Come try it; I bet you'll love it! Just like I do in all of my classes, there are modifications for every exercise. I encourage everyone to let their body dictate which version they perform. It is so important to maintain proper form to avoid injury and get the most out of each exercise, so I provide a variety of levels so everyone can work to their max.
