Hi, I’m Mark. I’m so happy you’ve discovered us. This is a wonderful studio, and new students as well as regular practitioners are our lifeblood.
I’ve been practicing Bikram Yoga, regularly, for the last 12 years and I’ve been certified to teach Bikram classes for the past four years. I’m also certified to teach Yin Nidra Yoga.
The private class I lead in Bikram is heated to around 100-105 degrees F, or I can take it hotter or cooler, to your preference. Bikram Yoga is a very rigorous, highly energizing practice that moves quickly through a breathing exercise, 26 postures (most performed twice), and ends with another cleansing, calming breathing exercise. If you’re a regular practitioner, I can lead you into a deeper understanding of the individual postures and the practice as a whole. Just tell me what you need, and we’ll search for it.
I’m also certified in Yin Nidra Yoga, which is a very slow, calming stretch of the deeper, or yin, tissues: tendons, ligaments and fascia. There’s beautiful music, and I’ll encourage you to close your eyes and breathe and to be still (and I’ll give you strategies to find your stillness). The Nidra part of Yin Nidra is a 20-25 minute guided meditation with eyes closed, where I’ll lead you to a blissfully calming state of consciousness between wakeful awareness and sleep. You may dream. Most students ending the session report feeling centered and rested. This is a particularly good class to take later in the day, to deeply unwind.
I can teach 90 minutes classes, or shorter. You need at least 60 minutes to accomplish anything, really.
That’s it! I love both Bikram and Yin Nidra Yoga. I really need the calming, healthy benefits they give me.
