Through the asanas combined with the breath we are burning through stagnant, stale energy, old emotions, past hurts, wounds and karma so that we can begin the process of settling our minds into silence. This process is furthered with the use of pranayama breathing techniques and meditation.

In this workshop, Yarrow Kae will teach you several breathing techniques that can assist in purifying the body, breaking through any barriers that may inhibit the mind from settling into silence. Afterwards, we will sit in meditation. It is in silence, in stillness, that we learn to receive.

This is an introduction to meditation and pranayama breathing. First we will perform active breathing exercises and then we will sit and breathe. Afterwards, Yarrow will answer any questions you may have about these practices.

If you are looking to create a regular meditation practice, Yarrow Kae will give you some tools to help create habits that will support your practice. Just like the asanas are a daily practice, so is meditation. Our minds are like wild horses that need to be trained when we train them we learn how to respond rather than to react. It is through meditation that this can happen.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21 and was declared to be internationally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline that originated in India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.

The idea of an International Yoga Day was first proposed by Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on September 27, 2014. He stated:

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” — Narendra Modi, UN General Assembly

Following this initial proposal, the UNGA held informal consultations on the draft resolution entitled “International Day of Yoga”, on October 14, 2014. The consultations were convened by the delegation of India.

On December 11, 2014, India’s Permanent Representative Asoke Mukherji introduced the draft resolution in UNGA. The draft text received broad support from 177 Member States who adopted the text without a vote. This initiative found support from many global leaders. A total of 175 nations co-sponsored the resolution and had the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THE FALL

Join us on May 14th, 7pm at Bikram Yoga NYC Flatiron as we pay homage to music legend Prince. This class, led by Upkar Chana and Charly Seamon with a set-list by Nick Graham will feature Prince’s most popular tunes to his most obscure, ranging from the late 70s to present day.

We lost a musical genius on April 21st, 2016, as well as a great philanthropist. His legacy lives on not only in his music, but in the MANY charities he donated to and founded. While this great humanitarian kept his philanthropic contributions quiet, he gave donations and himself to many charities including: PETA, The Elton John AIDS Foundation, City Of Hope, H.A.L.O, Jazz Foundation of America, The Elevate Hope Foundation, Urban Farming, The Bridge, Harlem’s Children Zone, Black Lives Matter, Green For All, Edith Couey Memorial Scholarship Fund and #YesWeCode.

He was the vision behind #YesWeCode, a national initiative to help 100,000+ low opportunity men and women find success in the tech sector. We are asking for a minimum donation of $25.00 to join this celebratory event. Proceeds will go to #YesWeCode and costs to make this class possible.

We all experience tightness in our bodies, chronic aches and pains, often in the same places again and again. Old injuries, scoliosis, bad posture, and even deep emotional stress are examples of why we may feel limited in our movement. Traditionally we address these with body work, but is that a successful long term solution to this problem? do you feel the tightness coming back again and again? you might even think by now thats just how your body is, that you’re destined to live with chronic tension.

In this workshop we will learn about and explore the principals of misuse that lead to chronic tension, and how to observe the physical and mental connections that entrench them. Using this heightened awareness, you will learn how to self-correct your tensions by strategically “letting go”. Learning these principals has the incredible potential to change how you move throughout your day, how you practice, even how you sleep.

Discussion and sharing will be encouraged.
