Our new Yin Nidra class begins with 55 minutes of Yin Yoga postures and then leads into 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra. The class is conducted in a warm room (Approx. 80-90F), with the Yin portion accompanied by music.
Yin yoga postures are designed to open up the body by prolonged holds of deep stretching techniques – typically between 1 to 5 minutes in length. These techniques are designed to put both your body and mind in a state of deep relaxation. Yin yoga focus on the connective tissues of the body – tendons, fascia, and ligaments – with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Often referenced as more meditative approach to yoga, Yin aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.
The second part of the class, Yoga Nidra, builds upon the relaxed physical and mental state from the preceding Yin postures. Yoga Nidra – also known as Yogic Sleep – is a state of consciousness similar to the process of drifting off to sleep. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of their inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required.
Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.
We are excited to offer these classes as a great complement to your Bikram Yoga practice with over 20 of our instructors have been trained to lead them.
